Fishbeck is currently leading the development of a comprehensive Materials Management Plan (MMP) for Kent County in accordance with Michigan’s revised Part 115 requirements. This work builds on Kent County’s strong reputation as a statewide leader in recycling, waste diversion, and public education, anchored by its well-established Recycling & Education Center. The county’s forward-thinking approach provides a solid foundation for a data-driven, community-informed plan that aims to strengthen the local circular economy.
Our team is providing end-to-end MMP services with a focus on practical, sustainable solutions that go beyond traditional landfilling. Key deliverables include a recycling and organics gap analysis, evaluation of access to curbside and multifamily collection services, development of benchmark recycling standards, goal setting, and a long-term implementation framework. These efforts are directly aligned with Kent County’s broader sustainability and landfill diversion goals.
Fishbeck’s technical approach emphasizes measurable outcomes and stakeholder alignment. We’re working closely with the County’s Designated Planning Agency (DPA) and Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC) to ensure the plan reflects both regulatory compliance and local priorities. Community input, regional infrastructure needs, and future growth are being considered throughout each phase of the planning process.
Now in active development, the plan is structured into multi-year phases, with clear task breakdowns and ongoing budget support. Fishbeck’s sustained involvement demonstrates our ability to manage complex planning initiatives while remaining responsive to evolving county goals, stakeholder needs, and state policy changes. This project highlights our ability to support counties through the entire MMP process—from early data collection to stakeholder coordination and long-term strategy.
